297 Cornerstone Lane

Where do campers come from?
Being an international camp, our campers come from around the world. Each year our campers represent approximately 15 different countries and we value each culture and nationality greatly. We look forward to welcoming other international delegates to Camp Up with People.
Will my camper be permitted to keep his/her cell phone?
Camp Up with People is a technology free camp. While our staff will provide designated time once per weekend to contact friends and families, all electronic devices will be collected, and stored safely and securely. The CUWP experience is much more valuable when campers are physically and mentally present.
What is the weather like?
The temperature is usually in the 80’s during the day and in the 60’s at night. We occasionally get rain, but for the most part the weather is sunny and pleasant. Evenings sometimes require a sweatshirt and jeans.
Can my camper stay more than one session?
Though the 3-week sessions are the same, you can attend both sessions. There is a small discount if you attend both. See Dates/Fees for more information.
What is the ratio of staff to campers?
There is one counselor per 5-7 campers. The counselor-to-camper ratio may vary during different activities, but should not exceed one counselor for every six campers.
What are the dorm rooms like?
All suites sleep 8, and are comprised of 2 rooms with a shared bathroom between them. Each room has 2 bunk beds and adequate closet space. The dormitory is equip with electricity, air-conditioning, and wifi access.
My camper is coming with a friend. Can they share a dorm room?
While campers are welcome to request roommates, our priority is to promote and encourage new relationships, exploring the richness and diversity that makes up the Camp Up with People community.
How are activities planned and scheduled?
Most of the activities during the 3-week session are planned in advance. However, the schedule may change depending upon weather, the collective and individual progress of the campers, and their accomplishments of the curriculum.
What if my child misses home?
Our counselors are trained to help campers work through feelings of home sickness. Program Directors will call parents/guardians if a child is missing home for more than a day, to keep you informed of their progress. We schedule time once each weekend for all campers to call home and share the experiences. We’ve found that homesickness calls in many cases don’t help the situation and can make missing home worse. Most homesickness goes away in the first three days, as campers establish their “new normal”.
What kind of medical coverage do you have?
Camp has first-aid trained staff on site 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Camp Horizons, 9 miles away, has medical staff living at the Camp, which is important, because this is where the majority of our outdoor activities will take place. Also, Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg is 10 minutes away and camp has 911 emergency services available.
Will my camper’s laundry be washed?
Campers’ laundry will be washed twice….at the beginning of the second and third weeks. All campers must bring their own laundry bag with their name on it, and clearly label all belongings.
